Free Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2010
From the 05-29 August – hosted by Laughing Horse Productions – there were four shows almost every day in the basement of Cafe Renroc (VENUE 84) and, they were all FREE.
We’re already looking forward to Free Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011.
Meantime, here’s some information and images about a couple of the shows from this year’s Free Fringe.
Hi, How Can I Help You?

A one-woman musical written by Scout Durwood. Directed by Lucile Scott.
Comedienne Scout Durwood presents: Hi, How Can I Help You? a one woman musical following the lives of six women employed at a New York City house of domination called The Enchanted Paddle, the night of the 2008 presidential election, as they navigate the volatile economy of the sex industry during a recession. All of the show’s music is performed live onstage using instruments ranging from a ukulele, an electric guitar, jingle bells, a recorder, a vocal looper, and beer filled glasses, The show is inspired by a sense of children at play, embracing the silly rather than the sexy side of life as a dominatrix.
Darcy, the phone girl, tries to keep everything in order as Genevieve, the dungeon’s most loved by clients and most hated by her co-workers mistress, argues with Jane, a veteran at the dungeon, who just can’t seem to leave the Paddle no matter how hard she tries. Dazed and confused Charlotte rollerdances and hula hoops singing the praises of her polyamorous boyfriend, Dan, and Lisa, the Madame behind it all, interviews a new mistress and explains how she got involved in this crazy world to begin with.
Scout Durwood is an NYC based actor, comedienne and burlesque performer as well as a founding member of Mighty Little Productions. (www.mighty-little.com). A Kansas City native, she came to New York City via Amherst College where she received cum laude honors for her first solo show, “Adym and Stevie,” earning her degree in Political and Social Activism Through Theatre. She is also the host of Something Awesome monthly comedy burlesque variety show in the main room at Comix Comedy Club. Scout most recent one-woman musical was developed thanks to a grant from Brooklyn Arts Exchange. Her work has been featured on The Howard Stern Show, CBS Radio, The Miss America Pageant, and just about every venue in New York City with a stage and a mic. (www.scoutdurwood.com)
What critics are saying about Scout:
“You’ve got good comedy. You’ve got a great Penelope Cruz impression and you’ve got a great set of tits.” Howard Stern
“She’s got it all.” Robin Quivers
“Scout Durwood is a brilliant actor, comic, and singer/songwriter, no really – she can do all three at an absurdly high level. She is dangerously smart, and yet unafraid of looking silly.” Stagebuzz.com
“Her performance is funny and emotionally honest and she has stage presence to spare.” Martin Denton, NYTheatre.com
“A world where sexy and funny collide. It’s quite rare for someone as beautiful as [Scout Durwood] to develop an interesting personality – much less a funny one – under such a pretty face, simply because they don’t have to. Lucky for us, Scoutington is a different sort.” Scallywag and Vagabond
““Scout is a breath of fresh air on the comic scene…her presence and her sense of wit is to say the least… Extraordinary!!!…” Frankie Russo, Host of ‘Rock Chicks Live’ on CBS Radio’s Chataboutit.com
“New York City’s newest queen of late night comedy!” Culture Mob
“A dynamically talented woman.” Go Magazine
“lol sexiness” Hypergender Burlesque
